Taiwan Youth Chess Association ( TYCA ) is an inter-school organization initiated by a high school student who loves chess, spreading love and care through chess
Hi I am Anderson. I am the founder and president of Taiwan Youth Chess Association.I have been playing chess from 3rd grade. And now I represent Taiwan as a chess player. When TYCA members help the younger players, we found that there are some Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children passionate about chess but struggle in getting the correct help.
After doing some research, we found the FIDE’s INFINITE CHESS Project which aims to increase knowledge and awareness of chess for children with autism. This project gives practical advice to teachers and parents, study the benefits of introducing to chess and develop various teaching methods.
Chess is an excellent tool to interact with different people. Chess is a sport that does not hold any barriers for special or unique children. It is inclusive in nature, and beneficial for all.Today, We are so happy to receive permission to launch this project in Taiwan.
“TYCA organizes chess tournaments every season with the main goal of promoting chess in Taiwan. Through these tournaments, children can experience the benefits of playing chess. It helps develop logical thinking and imagination, enhances analytical skills and memory, and increases planning and flexibility in both learning and life. Regardless of winning or losing, these experiences will become valuable lessons for the children’s future. Watching them share ideas and strategies through playing chess, I believe this is the original intention of TYCA’s establishment!”
TYCA is delighted to have invited Grandmaster (GM) Vladimir Lazarev to the Fuxing Chess Club for an exchange and guidance session with the members. In addition to playing simultaneous games (where the Grandmaster plays against all members at the same time), he also provided many valuable insights about chess. We spent an unforgettable time together and look forward to seeing him again next time!
TYCA has been a non-profit partner of the Yale Model United Nations Taiwan for three consecutive years.
TYCA members not only engage with global issues alongside YALE MUN, but also use this platform to introduce the Taiwan Youth Chess Association to potential future leaders from various countries. In addition to promoting the various benefits of chess, it also showcases the efforts of Taiwanese youth in helping children with autism worldwide. Through YALE MUN, we hope to rally more people to join the Infinite Chess Project
We shared chess with the children, and they entrusted their hearts to us. Through the world depicted by their paintbrushes, they expressed their dreams. Not only did they take us on a tour of Taiwan’s east coast, but they also took us camping by the sea, traveling around the island by train, celebrating a joyful Christmas together, and concluding the journey during the Lunar New Year reunion. For the 2024 calendar, we collectively painted our shared memories.
Sergei Tiviakov remained undefeated for 110 consecutive professional chess games, a record only broken by World Champion Magnus Carlsen. Who could be better suited to teach you rock-solid chess strategies than Tiviakov? Tiviakov discusses how to play in restricted and passive positions, how to strive for victory with the black pieces, and how to choose strategies based on the opponent’s style and other psychological factors. Through classic games and examples from his own matches, as well as inspiring exercises, ‘Rock Solid Chess’ offers valuable and unique guidance not covered in traditional textbooks. Angie is honored to represent TYCA in interviewing the author of this series, GM Sergei Tiviakov. Let’s take a look at this interview.
Taiwan has become the 11th member country in the world to use chess to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) improve their social skills. Through each move and decision in chess, they learn to face and manage the resulting outcomes and emotions. Currently, 25 countries around the world are participating in this project
